February 350 Block Project report

I am a couple of days behind on my 350 Block Project report but at least I made some this month! I don’t know if I said, but I only made 4 blocks last month….starting out way behind the 8-ball on this!

First I put borders and pieced a backing for my Cows for Deb quilt. This photo shows it on my longarm where it is patiently waiting for me to finish the quilting.Cows for Deb

I am counting the borders as one block and the pieced back as another for two of my February blocks.

My second inspiration was found when perusing the web, along with an upcoming need for some baby quilts. The Jolly Jabber, The Fat Quarter Shop‘s blog, was featuring one of their free patterns (I didn’t know they had any prior to this post!) and a blog hop with some giveaways along with it. The pattern was Layers of Charm, using a layer cake and a charm pack. It was a lot of fun to look at all the different fabric choices everyone made on the blog hop, and at Samelia’s Mum post, Layers of Charm, I found a very inspirational table runner. It reminded me of a layer cake of 20’s-30’s reproduction fabrics I had bought a number of years ago. Anorina, from Samelia’s Mum, used blue and white triangles to form the diamonds in the quilt. Inspiration! I thought that would be a great little boy quilt, and I could use red and yellow accents in the little girl version!

Here is my little boy version of Layers of Charm – Layers of Charm - boy

I made it 4 by 6 rows instead of the 4 by 4 listed on the actual pattern, that way the quilt was a little larger. This is 6 more blocks for the month. The top is finished, though in this picture it is not yet pieced.

The picture here on my design wall shows 6 bonus pinwheels that came from the Layers of Charm quilt and 11 leader-ender batik 9-patch blocks.

This gives me 25 blocks for February and a whopping 29 total for the year so far (picture me rolling my eyes at myself on that one!).

Believe it or not, I have some blocks already made for March. I have finished the little girl version of Layers of Charm as well as the bonus pinwheels and some more batik 9-patch leader/enders.

I think from the little bit of inspiration I had to make up a couple of baby quilts, I will end up with four total: the two Layers of Charm quilts, the bonus pinwheel quilt when I put them all together, and a batik 9-patch that I have the PERFECT border fabric for!

You need to grab a cuppa and click on over to Shelly’s Prairie Moon Quilts and check out the phenomenally huge tallies some folks rack up for their monthly block totals – you will see why I am making fun of my block count!
